Blohm+Voss is member of the Hamburg Environmental Partnership (UmweltPartnerschaft Hamburg)
Since January 2016, Blohm+Voss is an official environmental partner of Hamburg and thus proves its commitment in the areas of sustainability and conservation of natural resources. Energy and materials efficiency are what Blohm+Voss are focusing on.
To reduce power consumption on the entire shipyard, the company is switching to energy-efficient LED lighting, especially in the production halls and workshops. In addition, Blohm+Voss is working on optimizing provisional ship lighting as well as the control technology of crane systems operated by electricity all across the shipyard.
Water is an important central resource that must be used wisely and maintained. With our wastewater collection system for the docks, the water accumulating in the dock area is captured and recycled. This cleaning process also takes into account the arising wastewater resulting from the use of high pressure washing systems for paint removal of ship hulls.
For the past ten years, the Environmental Partnership has been the Hamburg institution for the promotion of voluntary environmental protection in the industry. By now, over 1,000 companies have become Hamburg environmental partners by contributing voluntary services. The Environmental Partnership is supported, amongst others, by the Senate of Hamburg, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the Association of the Port of Hamburg (Unternehmensverband Hafen Hamburg e.V.). The ELBJAZZ Festival will take a break in 2016
January 5, 2016
Since 2010, the ELBJAZZ Festival has been a fixture in the annual festival calendar and enjoys an excellent reputation nationally as well as internationally. However, after six years in a row, the popular festival held in the Port of Hamburg will take a break in 2016. Continuation is being planned in 2017.
The festival organizers will use the break to implement a conceptual development regarding the venues and the musical as well as structural orientation of the festival in 2017. Blohm+Voss will again be at the 2017 festival. Two open air stages and the stage in the »Alte Maschinenfabrik« have already been reserved.
We already look forward to an exciting festival in 2017.

BV80 Superyacht – Start of Production
Hamburg, October 2015
At the beginning of October 2015 the first steel plate was cut at Blohm+Voss to commence construction of the initial sections of the BV80 superyacht (Yard No. 985). Fred van Beers, Chief Executive Officer of Blohm+Voss was accompanied by Klaus Müller, Senior Lead Surveyor at DNVGL Maritime Station Hamburg. They jointly pressed the button of the computer-controlled plasma cutting machine to start the cutting of the first steel plate.
Almost a year to the day since the plans for the BV80 superyacht were unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show 2014, this moment was the culmination of a year of intense detailed engineering, tank testing, Class approvals and planning. With the start of production of the sections as planned, the delivery time has been reduced to just 30 months from contract, whilst still accommodating a custom layout and interior, meaning that delivery will be available from April 2018. The project teams from Blohm+Voss and DNVGL celebrated with a gathering in the shipbuilding hall to mark the occasion.
»We are very glad that after working very hard for about one year, the production of the first section of the BV80 has started«, said Fred van Beers, adding that; »Today the whole Blohm+Voss team has taken an important step towards the future.«
Based on a semi-custom model, the BV80, developed in cooperation with Eisgaard Design, provides a high degree of individual design freedom, especially in the layout and finish of the owner and guest areas. The design flexibility is coupled with a fast build time, competitive price and »Blohm+Voss Quality« making it a highly attractive proposition in today’s market.
